TAWAU, Residents in the district should not worry should they received notice from the Water Department as the amount stated could probably be wrongly stated due to the system used by the department in managing billing system.
Fung Len Fui, the PKR of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Sri Tanjong said they had received over twenty such notices from residents at Tawau Lama housing estate where most of them owe the department over RM1,000 each with one receiving a notice claiming she owe over RM25,000 for unpaid water bills.
`We had met with the district’s Water Department Engineer and they admitted that their billing system is facing problem’, he said after meeting with his deputy Chong Hon Vun with the engineer, Bahrin Antonio yesterday morning.
He urges those receiving these notices should co-operate with the department by handling back the notices they received to obtain the actual amount as suggested by Bahrin that they could come to the department office to get the actual reading.
`The notices shows the doubtful amount were issued from Kota Kinabalu and we had already submitted a report over this problem’, Bahrin said during the meeting.
Over 20 house owners at Tawau Lama raised the matter to Fung over the ridiculous notices from the department where Chong represented Fung met and collected the notices for the meeting held yesterday.
`I stay with my wife and there is no way we can owe the department hundreds of Ringgit a month’, a Consumer stated over the notice he received.
Chong in the meeting received the notices with one of the consumer showing a notice that she owe the department over RM25,000.
